Hello Fred - I was the assistant manager of the Officers Club at LAAF from November 1972 until March 1973. Do I remember correctly that you liked Rusty Nails? Were you there the night I tossed LTC McGee out of the club when he got really soused and obnoxious?

Hey Fred and fellow Blackhawk brethren and friends; apologize for being out of contact for so long. Plenty of health issues and Lost the Lost Commo instructions!! Never could expect a maintenance officer to follow directions.
Read through most of your guestbook and happy to see contact information for many old friends including "Fast Eddie Wittkamper". Anyone ever get back up with Marty Miller??
Will really try to get back involved and make it to DC in September. I am still working but may retire now that I am 65. More to follow. Work e-mail is john.keegan@ngc.com.

Fred,
I ran across your web page and enjoyed your collection of pictures and adventures. I did notice that you have not included the Ft. Campbell chapter. I retired from the National Guard in 2007 after a tour in Iraq in 2005. I plan to retire from ny day job[Airport Management] later this year. Did you retire in the PA area. I still remenber some of your lessions in cost control.Alan Alexander

Our 3-5 man MAT team's AO was the northern 2/3 of Pleiku Province, working mostly with Montagnard PF/RF units, in 70-71. I visited the small outpost at the top of Mang Yang a few times, have pictures of the many depressions in the ground that are graves. My advising of the small and lax Vietnamese unit there did no good, they got wiped out one night. The French graves at Mang Yang, were, I believe, mostly German soldiers, who had no job and no home after the war to come home to, enlisted in the French Foreign Legion. An extremely interesting and outstanding Montagnard Major Bang (prounounced Bong), whom I worked with often, and who spoke 7 Montagnard languages, Vietnamese, English, and German, with no formal education, told me this. He was THE commander of that area's Montagnard troops. Some neat stories about working with this guy. P.S.: Personally, I never felt any PTSD. MV

Being in An Khe 1968/1969 with the 15th S&S, I really appreciate the pics. I try to tell people how it was sitting there just a sitting duck for the attacks. I am still trying to get PTSD from my experiences there, but I can't because I can't explain good enough or find anyone there with me during that time to help explain what it was like running to the conex and just waiting, listening to the mini-guns buzzing....
Nice work

Enjoyed the pics very much of Mang Yang Pass. I was helicopter pilot with 4th ID 69-70 and flew many times through the pass. Was always infatuated with the graves of the French soldiers. We were told that they were buried in lime facing France. Got one good look at the grave while flying an OH-6A monitoring the convoy move of the 4th from Camp Enari to Camp Radcliffe at An Khe in spring '70. Was able to hover over area for close look and it was very humbling. Good site, and welcome home!

Fred,
I was in my attic today looking for something and I came across a box of Father Judge Alumni material from the, "Moving Wall" back in 2001. I found a correspondence from you and Joe Hannigan where you had offered pictures to Joe from your time in Vietnam. I just went back and spent some time on your site; revising the space devoted to our 27. Fred, thinking back I'm not sure if I emailed back in 2001 however I am certainly proud to email you and thank you for you efforts to help us and also your time serving our Country. Don't know where you call home but the past two Memorial day's I have held a service at my house in Ocean City, NJ paying tribute to all our fallen with particular mention of our 27. Would love to have you attend this year if you are in the area. Sorry for this very long waited response but I'm glad I came across your info again.
Sincerely
Mike Dufner

Thank you for serving our Country, and thank you for the cool page. I was born and raised at March Air Force Base and lived at El Toro Marine Base and Malstom AFB. I knew a LOT of Helicopter Pilots growing up, and they were the greatest. As a kid, it was really hard to except that a lot of them didn't come home. And I'll never ever forget them.Thank you.
