John Cook

After retiring, I joined the volunteer staff at Port Columbus, the Civil War Naval Museum in Columbus Georgia.  I'm indexing the papers of the first museum's first Archivist/Historian.  An index of his work will be on-line in a couple of months (I hope).

My nest project will be to copy letters written by sailors and marines to their families.  We hope to make a facsimile and transcription of each letter available.  Reading their letters home shows that life during war remains the same forever.

The pay isn't great (I'm a volunteer, remember), but I set my own time and enjoy the projects.

Rich Hansell A-28 driver here, In north Las Vegas the VA built a new hospital in 2012. I now do volunteer work there two days a week for a total of 8 hours. I do phone calls to veterans and remind them of their upcoming medical appointments. I've found that many still have problems that the system does not resolve. One of the big ones is the lack of van drivers to ferry vets back and forth to the hospital. The DAV is in dire need, so if anyone out there is still able check out the DAV and inquire about becoming a driver. Scouts out!
