Blackhawks!
Many of you C Troopers may have heard this news by phone or by internet but, as you go about your daily schedules; take a little time to give thanks for the lives and examples of two comrades that are no longer with us.
Plt. Sgt. Ron Garrett (77) of Indian Bayou, Louisiana; was called to Fiddler's Green on April 6, 2009. As Charlie Troop's, 2nd Platoon leader; Ron was famous for his "old indian tricks", which usually left one of his people hurting, bleeding or embarrassed. In contrast to that, PSGT. Garrett was a committed and experienced combat veteran who earned a Silver Star, 2 Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart while serving with the 2/1 in Vietnam. He leaves his wife of 54 years, Margie; 3 sons, 2 daughters, 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren to mourn his loss. A great many of his fellow C Troopers will also mourn his passing while they celebrate his life. More details on PLT.SGT. Garrett's burial are available at www.duhonfuneralhome.com.
Sp4 Michael "Mike" Provine left this earth on April 10,2009; enroute to a better place that required a Medical Specialist. For his service in Vietnam, Mike was awarded the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, the Combat Medical Badge w/ 2 bars among other citations and medals. He was intered in McPherson, Kansas on April 14, 2009. More details are available at www.gliddenedigerfuneral.com. Rest In Peace, Brother Blackhawks.

I read this message and it made me feel good to know that is actually someone out there who served with 2/1st. I served as a medic w/ Atrp and also with HHT before being infused to the Big Red One in May of '68--Arthur Rios
