Fred, you've done a great job with this tribute to our fallen and our living heros of Vietnam. I was a Cobra pilot with D troup 1st Squadron 4th CAV, Darkhorse 38, stationed at Phu Loi in III Corp. I've often wondered how life really was in II Corp and I sense your writing very accurately describes it. One hears all kinds of war stories from those who were there; some ring true while others are somewhat embelished. Yours reminds me of the truth I remember, thank you for that.
By the way, while at Wolters my primary flight instructor was CWO Fred Ferguson. He was one of the coolest personalities I've ever met. I believe he was the first Warrant Officer to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor. I didn't learn of his heroism until I read about it in the Army times while I was in Vietnam.
Thanks again for a job very well done.

Hi Fred. Nice site. I'm a Comair guy and Gladys told me about your site. I'll pass it on to my buds. I was in Class 69-3, D Trp (Air) 1/4 Cav 69-70. 3 months of which we became C Trp 16th Cav. I was a Cobra Jock (Darkhorse 37). Second tour was flying RU21's out of Longthon North and last 6 months from Udorn,Thailand. Just got back from VHMCA Reunion in SAT. Great gig as most of our guys attended.

Captain Sir!
I am the Comair pilot who said you were to young to have been in Viet Nam! That was a couple of weeks ago in MKE.
I have just spent an hour on your web site. I will spend more. You have some interesting life stories to tell...
I will be forwarding your web site to some friends of mine from the Viet Nam Helicopter group and some friends doing some flying in Iraq.
Thanks for inviting me to visit your life.
Thank you for your service to our country.
sincerely,
Gladys Miller

Fred;
I am a LCDR in the Navy, stationed in Corpus Christi, flying training acft (T44) and working on an Admiral's staff for pilot production. I recently had the honor of meeting Ray Marple on a Caribbean cruise (vacation for my wife and I), and shared some stories and a few whiskies. He gave me your website, I hope you don't mind. Great stuff! I was lucky enough myself to make it out of Iraq during a Gulf deployment in 2003, flying P3's, intel and surveillance mostly. Will probably do the 8 years left until retirement, and adjourn myself to a quiet lake somewhere up north.
Good luck with all, and thankyou!

Commander Watson was a great person for me to meet on a cruise. He couldn't understand why we thank him just like I couldn't understand why He thanks us. It's all about patriotism isn't it?

What a great site. I'm sure this has taken lots of time. It's really a success.
I've got family now in Sperry - do you know where that is? Verrrrry small. I was there last October for a 50th anniversary party - had great weather and really enjoyed Oklahoma, my mom's birth state.
Congratulations on a beautiful family.

:i had no idea. i am in awe. i often wondered what Mark Harbison (my brother) went through at such a young age while i was home safe and sound with our mother. He does not talk about it, at least to me. thank you for the insight.

I was in the company across the street from you in basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana. I was in D-5-1. We were in the same cycle and were at the firing range at the same time. Remember the guy from your company who shot himself in the foot at the range. I remained enlisted and was an assignment NCO in Vietnam and I just might have did your assignment to the Cav. I returned stateside to Fort Wolters, Tx, was the Officer Record's NCO until I got out in 1970.

Great site, a real tribute to the unit, its people and aircraft.
I'm collecting stories from Loach people for a book devoted to them, plus photos, which are copied, credited and returned.

Hi Fred,
I was forwarded an email about a GI's funeral in a small town in Texas and I was very moved by it. I don't know if you passed it on from someone else or you originated it, but thank you for distributing this email. God bless our troops.

I really like your site, you have done a great job. I was in the 351st from Dec 67 till Feb 69 when I went to Vietnam. I was in the 129th AHC while there. I got there on the 21st of march 69 so I didn't meet Larry Stoner but I was/am friends of the crewchief of the bird he died in. I was there when Kenneth Witmer went down. that was a rough on as the CC and I were friends. please chech out my pages and if you have any pictures of the guys I don't have would you consider sending it to me so I can put it on my site ?
